Landcom is pushing ahead with a masterplan comprising build-to-rent, key worker and market homes for a Sydney development hotspot.
The state development agency has earmarked the block at Chatswood, a former Sydney Metro construction site, for 1500 homes under its draft masterplan.
The proposal for the 607 Pacific Highway site includes 180 build-to-rent apartments, held in perpetuity for essential workers.
It also details 1300 apartments for sale on the open market, plus affordable homes, as well as public open spaces and retail components.
Landcom wants to rezone the site to enable buildings of 25 to 56 storeys.
It would also adaptively reuse a local heritage building, Mowbray House, which was a boarding school from 1906 to 1954, for future community purposes, such as a ground-floor cafe.
The site is near the Chatswood Metro station. Work is planned to begin on the site in late 2026 and the first residents are expected to move in by late 2028.
The draft masterplan is open for public feedback until October 27.
The project is being supported by a $450-million state investment to enable Landcom to build 400 build-to-rent homes for essential workers in metropolitan Sydney.
Landcom is also advancing the next stage of its infill affordable housing project at Campbelltown, putting plans for the Macarthur Gardens North affordable homes precinct on exhibition.
Landcom plans to deliver 130 units on the 4895sq m site, 42km south-west of the Sydney CBD and near the Macarthur train station.
The $103-million project would deliver a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units.
It is also planning 1300 homes at Bella Vista, 220 build-to-rent and 357 affordable and market homes at Annandale, and the first stage of the build-to-rent program at the former WestConnex tunnel works.
